About Val Thorens
Located in the Tarentaise Valley, in the Savoie department of the French Alps, Val Thorens is the highest ski resort in Europe, at an altitude of 2,300 m or 7545 ft.
It was in the 1960s that plans to transform summer pastures into a purpose-built ski area first arose and in 1971 the first drag lift was installed.
Like many other 1960s resorts in the Alps, Val Thorens initially suffered from a lack of architectural guidelines, so accommodation consisted mainly of big concrete buildings. However, in the last decade, the resort has benefited from investments, so its aspect has significantly improved.
As Europe's highest ski resort, Val Thorens offers many advantages, including the fact that the ski season remains open for longer and the powder is excellent. Generally, the extended ski season in Val Thorens lasts nearly two months longer, from the last week of November until the first week of May.
Another great thing about Val Thorens is its strategic position - located right in among the slopes. You will be next to the ski runs, no matter where you will stay in Val Thorens.
Surrounded by 6 glaciers and 6 equipped mountain peaks at altitudes of more than 3,000 m (9842 ft), Val Thorens offers magnificent views over more than 1,000 peaks in the French, Swiss and Italian Alps from La Cime Caron (3,200 m or 10,498 ft).

Val Thorens promises enjoyment for everyone, regardless of their skiing level. Beginners and intermediates will find a large area of easy skiing, equipped with four roof-covered magic carpets, right in the heart of the domain.
On the other hand, there are plenty of challenging ski slopes for the more adventurous and experienced skiers.

Between powder snowfields and great slopes, Val Thorens is a vast versatile playground where everyone can practice their favourite snowsport. Alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, snowboarding, telemark skiing, snowshoeing and, best of all, the longest toboggan run in France: 6 km (3.72 mi) for 45 minutes of pure descent!
