About Praz-sur-Arly
Praz-sur-Arly is a commune in the Haute-Savoie department in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region in south-eastern France.
Praz-sur-Arly is a charming village which provides an alternative to Megève and Chamonix.
Praz-sur-Arly has a rich history of over six centuries, with the first inhabitants establishing La Thona (La Tonnaz today) in 1375, which was followed by Réon (Rayon at the time) and Le Pratz, which is the centre of the village today.
The village saw the constructions of two chapels and one church - the Mary Magdalene Church - in the 17th century.
A school followed, together with the desire to gain independence from Megève, which was a long process finalized in 1907, when the Town Council, by Government decision, stated that Pratz de Megève should become Praz-sur-Arly.
Praz-sur-Arly is an ideal holiday destination, because of its numerous summer & winter activities, its serenity, its breathtaking scenery and the proximity to bigger resorts, such as Chamonix or Megève.

Skiing in Praz-sur-Arly
Praz-sur-Arly is a part of the relatively new Espace Diamant ski domain, which encompasses 192 km of slopes serviced by 85 ski lifts.
Located at an ideal altitude between the Beaufortain massif and the Val d'Arly, facing Mont Blanc, the Espace Diamant is an exceptional playground.
The Espace Diamant is the ideal ski domain for the whole family, as it has 30 green slopes, 67 blue, 49 red and 11 challenging black slopes.
The Espace Diamant ski area usually opens mid-December and closes at the beginning of April.
Praz-sur-Arly itself provides an impressive 35 km of pistes with 26 groomed trails, serviced by 11 lifts. Praz-sur-Arly is mainly suitable for beginners and intermediates, with 53% of ski slopes being classed as intermediate.
Praz-sur-Arly also offers a great off-piste circuit starting from the foot of the slopes, which will take you in the direction of the Cassioz and Megève.
Hot air ballooning
As a rare activity in the mountains, hot air ballooning is a must when in Praz-sur-Arly.
As the balloon flies over the Mont-Blanc massif, the Aravis Chain, the Beaufortain, and part of the Swiss and Italian Alps, the view from the balloon is absolutely fantastic.
Hot air ballooning in Praz-sur-Arly is possible in all four seasons and the resort always has a balloon company on the spot all year round.
Rock climbing
There is a 7 meters high climbing tower in Belles Leisure Park, which is ideal for beginners.
For those who are seriously passionate about rock climbing, there are many climbing spots in cliffs around the foot of the Mont-Blanc.
In the summer, the Tourist Office organizes rock climbing initiation in partnership with the Megève Mountain Guides Office.
