About Les Arcs
Les Arcs is a ski resort located in Savoie, France, in the town of Bourg-Saint-Maurice, located in the Tarentaise Valley.
Les Arcs is a part of the Paradiski ski area, which is owned by Compagnie des Alpes, a French company that owns several other ski resorts.
Created in 1968 by Robert Blanc and Roger Godino, Les Arcs is a traffic-free, purpose-built resort, that offers virtually limitless ski and touristic activities.
The original Arc resort is situated at 1,600 m (5,249 ft) altitude, located at the top of the funicular train up from the valley town of Bourg St Maurice.
Besides Arc 1600, Les Arcs also contain Arc 1800, Arc 1950 and Arc 2000 - all situated at altitudes ranging from 810 m (2,657 ft) to 3,226 m (10,584 ft), although skiing is possible above 1,200 m. Keep in mind that the numbers in the names of the villages are not to be taken too seriously, as they do not represent the accurate altitudes at which the villages are situated. For example, Arc 2000 was named in the 1960s to symbolise the future passage into a millennium. The village is actually situated at over 2,100 meters altitude (6,890 ft).
The four villages are very well connected by a shuttle bus, which circulates regularly.
In Les Arcs, you will find many big concrete buildings, as those were popular when the resort was built. However, Les Arcs is constantly improving and reinventing itself, so many picturesque chalets have been built in recent years.
All the villages are ski-in/ski-out, which makes it easy to commute between them on skis.
